You Should Hire a Certified Green Professional for Your Next Home Renovation

The environment is a constant source of conversation these days and I’m hearing about it from my clients more and more. Most clients come to me with questions about making their home more energy efficient and others are interested in reducing the environmental impact of their home renovation project. No matter what the concern is, I’m happy to provide insight and advice to clients on the topic of green home remodeling.

Early on in my career, I earned the Certified Green Professional designation from the National Association of Home Builders to demonstrate my commitment to green building principles. I know that home renovation and construction can be done in an environmentally friendly way without driving up the cost of construction. Regardless of budget, home renovations can be completed using high-quality materials and skilled craftsmanship and still be environmentally friendly.

What is a Certified Green Professional (CGP)?

A CGP is a contractor who has worked with the National Association of Home Builders, taking classes and exams to learn about green building principles and how to incorporate them into any home construction or renovation project. Some examples of green building principles are:

  • Energy Efficiency: Maximizing energy efficiency can be done through the use of energy efficient materials, design, and appliances.
  • Sustainable, Renewable and Eco-Friendly Materials: Examples of these materials are low VOC paints, bamboo and cork flooring, and insulated windows.
  • Water Conservation: Installing low-flow showers, toilets, faucets, and irrigation systems are all ways to reduce water consumption. This can be especially useful in drought-prone Dallas, Texas.

Why should you work with a Certified Green Professional?

Caring about the environment is not only a nice thing to do; it can also save you money. CGP training focuses heavily on providing cost effective solutions for homeowners that are also green. When you choose a CGP for your home renovation, you know you’re working with someone who values green building and understands how to incorporate it into project design in a sensible way. I can work with clients to identify what materials in their home we can reuse or repurpose during the project. This reduces construction waste and also lowers material costs.

Every home remodeling project presents unique challenges and opportunities for me as a building professional. The knowledge I’ve gained as a certified green professional offers me more ways to make your home renovation projects come to life.
